How Rack Scanner works

1. Install the Shopify app

Install Rack Scanner from the Shopify App Store and choose a plan (every plan starts with a free trial). Rack Scanner imports your products, variants, barcodes, SKUs, locations, inventory levels and paid orders. Changes in Shopify keep syncing automatically.

2. Get your team on the mobile app

Each team member installs Rack Scanner on Android or iPhone and registers with their name, email and password. Download the app →

3. Connect a phone to your store

• In Shopify Admin open Rack Scanner → Mobile Devices and click Connect Mobile App.
• A QR code appears with your Store ID and a one-time token such as X7J9-K2P8-M5R4.
• In the app, tap Connect Store and scan the QR code (or type the Store ID and token).
• The connection lasts 24 hours. After that the phone asks for a new QR code - so lost or shared phones don't keep access.

4. Count inventory

Pick a location and a scan mode, then point the camera at a barcode. Rack Scanner searches by barcode, then UPC, then SKU and shows the product image, title, SKU, barcode, current Shopify stock, location and variant.

• Scan the same item again to add one. Use +1, −1, manual entry or reset when needed.
• Single Product Count - submit right away. If Shopify says 50 and you counted 47, Shopify becomes 47.
• Full Inventory Audit - count many products, review differences, submit together.
• Location Audit - set a shelf label, count everything on it, move to the next shelf.

5. Pick & pack orders

Open Orders in the app. Only paid, unfulfilled orders that need shipping are listed.

• One order - select it and start packing straight away.
• Batch - select several orders (up to 50). Rack Scanner combines them into one pick list sorted by SKU, so staff collect everything in one walk. Scan each product as it's picked.
• Pack - scan every item into the box. Wrong products and extra units are flagged before the parcel is closed.
• Finish - mark the order packed and print the packing slip from the phone. Each slip carries an order barcode: scan it later to jump straight back to that order.

Orders count toward your plan when they're marked packed. Fulfilment and shipping labels stay in Shopify as usual.

6. Review and report

Every submission creates a count session with start and end time, the staff member, products counted and stock differences. Every packed order records who packed it and when. The dashboard shows orders to pack, orders packed today and active pick lists in real time. Managers review sessions, export CSVs of counts and packed orders, and - on Pro and Enterprise - see shrinkage and productivity reports.

Managing devices

From Mobile Devices you can see each connected user, email, device type, connection time and last activity, and disconnect, revoke access, force logout, generate a new QR code or view device history.
